About Matt![]() Matt Densham was born a classically trained musician in Leicester, but after spending far to much time playing in bands, buying records and partying at college in Oxford, decided he had to continue feeding his music addiction and immersed himself in being a DJ, promoter, music journalist and radio presenter around Oxford's fashionable Cowley Rd. After playing at college events and parties, and an early short-lived club night called One Step Beyond, Matt pioneered the sound of Big Beat in Oxford with the unfeasibly sweaty Basement Beats night, which ran for most of the late nineties before the venue decided it was time for a refurb. Playing a refreshingly eclectic, but always upbeat, mix of Breakbeat, Progressive House, and Deep Trance tunes, he moved on to play at a range of venues around Oxford including the New Inn, the Zodiac and Po Na Na in Central Oxford, where he supported a range of acts including Deejay Punk Roc and Derek Dahlarge. In 1997 he co-ordinated the dance music fringe events for BBC Radio 1’s "Oxford Sound City" event: booking acts and DJs, and arranging venues for three different club nights around the city. Looking further afield, he has played at a couple of festivals: "Oxstock" in Oxfordshire and "Bobfest" near Stirling, and at various clubs, bars and parties in London, Northampton, Leicester and Birmingham. From 1996 onwards Matt could be heard regularly on Oxford's local youth radio station, Oxygen FM, primarily producing and presenting the station's flagship dance music show, "The Blueprint", on Friday evenings, but also contributing to techno, local music and music discussion programmes. During his time at Oxygen, he was responsible for 23 hours of programming per week, as Head of Specialist Music, and interviewed bands as diverse as Basement Jaxx and Travis, as well as local faces like Supergrass, Unbelievable Truth and The Egg. After leaving Oxygen, Matt worked at local TV station the Oxford Channel, before moving to London to work for the Music Sales publishing group on their websites for musicians, Musicroom.com and Sheet Music Direct. Always up for a party, Matt can be contacted for bookings, interviews or a friendly chat, on 079 6116 4884, or by email: matt@musicroom.com.
