Is it possible to power up the camera from the software?

No

Is it possible to control exposure from QVa?

I don't think so

Although I have a mains adapter the QV10a times out unless it is being used, is there a way of stopping this?

1. Set to PLAY; hold down the MODE and SHUTTER buttons and turn the power on; should say TEST MODE
2. Press PROTECT and DEL; this brings up a menu (BLACK, COLOR BAR and APO OFF)
3. Use the + button to select APO OFF ; press the shutter button to select.

I wish there was a way to do this in software!
