Why I hate SGML

It is derived from something done by IBM

Enough Said?

Creations within SGML, such as HTML, are elegant and easy to understand. There is no good reason why DTDs has to be so opaque.

Intended Audiance

As Eric van Herwijnen says Making the choice for SGML should be a strategic decision that is taken at a high management level in a company. This is just not the right way to think about computing. HTTP is not the first example of computing being advanced by individuals. I would argue, and would welcome further illustations.
