I think that this presents a significant improvement to WASP for the following reasons:

1) More work appears to have been done
2) It appears a lot cleaner (better defined namespaces etc)3) better documentation
4) More people are involved, the mailing list has had three posts, and I only joined 1 hour ago)
5) Control for the application is the right way round (driven from servlets not templates)
6) The people involved seem to be more competant.

I have looked at JSP from sun, and although free at the moment, I found this snipped on jeeves.java.sun.com:

The Version 0.92 reference implementation is still available at no charge.

it is certainly not OSS.

I can't find anything on Apache JServ Templates.

I suggest we look seriously at webmacro, if you havn't looked at WASP yet, don't.
