All,

To summarise the Addressees on Message Boards
thread:

We need a messaging system which will cater for
manually sent messages and automatic alerts.

The messages should ideally be relevant not only
to a node but also to a particular page, as per
HyperNews.

When we get a Linux box many of these features will
become automatically available, as many of these
problems have been solved. (Newsgroup servers, Mailservers, mailing lists)

Everyone can then get a nifty @paneris.co.uk email address,
so you can always just not bother with your paneris mail.

As message distibution, archiving etc is so central
to Paneris I think that we need to take control of that
aspect of the system.

In particular we need (TimJ) to be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to
activities on projects we are not currently engaged in,
whilst, obviously, being able to see the archive.

MylesC/ColinR want daily system messages to be batched.

Be alerted to changes to documents which we altered last.

I tried to fix the distribution of system messages quickly,
and found that I had no idea of the data structure required.

This is my first thoughts:

Message Generators: people, processes
Message Recipients: people, processes
Cross of above with distibution type in it: immediate, batched, none; default immediate

Have I missed anything?

yours
TimP
