I recently read what's on the front page of Paneris for the first time and had some thoughts. In addition
- It seems a bit dense. Perhaps that's why I've never really noticed it before.
- Bits of it could have come straight out of Dilbert.
Therefore
- it's doesn't trumpet our competence and achievements anywhere in the first 45 reader-seconds.
- as a sales pitch it's perhaps suboptimal. (I know we are unlikely ever to get work purely on the basis of the front page, but even so ...)
> Our primary focus is on the IT systems used to produce solutions.
Shurely `utilized'?
> Paneris is committed to implement systems which comply with > international standards as they evolve.
What are we, a telecoms outfit suddenly?
> We ask that our customers join in the spirit of innovation and bear with us > where the details are a bit thin.
That could be said be made to sound far more positive.
So here's a stab at an alternative. I take it that the most important purpose of the front page is to put across our USPs.
- We are competent [with a link from HERE to our showcases!!]
- We are a collective---and therefore a friendly and trustworthy business partner for you the long term.
- We have pioneered new ways of working---which foster flexibility and efficiency, so better results for you.
- We stress quality and transparency---so we get things right and you feel in control.
- We try to understand your real problems.
I'm not particularly claiming that my effort really achieves this yet. Comments? Here are mine:
- I'm not sure about having all those links embedded in the text. On the other hand I don't think a bullet list/menu is really the right thing either. Perhaps just text with more discreetly highlighted hrefs, and a bar of links underneath?
- I would like to shorten it.
- Have I been too subtle in pointing out the USPs inherent in being a virtual collective? I don't think we should stress it too much at the start or people will get the idea we are a teleworking commune ...
- Otherwise I have been staring at it too long. Someone else have a go.
I also think we could tart up the people page. In short I'd feel happier if the front page, and everything directly reachable from it, was given a more or less American presentational gloss.
Welcome to PanEris
PanEris is home to a collective of web developers working together as a virtual corporation.
We take on projects for clients who wish to outsource the development of their Internet/Intranet sites, and the information systems behind them. (See the showcase of our biggest projects, or the repository of all our working documents.)
Whether we are delivering a turnkey solution or advising an in-house team, we always seek to understand the broader business context of the customer's requirements. Our aim is to become their long-term supply partner.
All the members of PanEris are FIXME big hitters who have worked both in blue-chip organisations and with small startups. They bring a range of skills from graphic design to software and database engineering (and far beyond).
The collective's aims are very idealistic. For our customers, their most tangible consequences are the emphasis we place on openness, and the flexibility and efficiency of our organisation.
The PanEris web site supports the structured quality procedures and transparent communications which lie at the heart of our working practices. It isn't flashy---and we don't apologise for that. We are busy people, and our spare time is taken up with preparing PanEris II!
We believe that our way of working offers higher quality for our customers, and a better quality of life to our members. If you would like to know more, we'd be delighted to hear from you.
For the `people' page
I think we should have little blurbs about us, bite-sized and all on one page, since we are one of the USPs. Also a little directory of specialisms we can offer, since we don't want to give the impression that we are dumb web-heads, and you never know when someone might say "that's just what I need!".
