I don't see socialism and change as being mutually incompatible.

It seems that you are tarring it with the state-capitalist
brush that it has suffered from for so long.

Socialism is not, as far as I can see, a designed or controlled
thing, it is hardly even defined.

It does have some fundamental axioms or beliefs which I paraphrase as

1. People are nice
2. Production for profit is the root of all social problems
3. Disparate economic power is an evil in itself

I sign up to these, and so am forced to agree with your 100%
inheritance tax, (though I am not expecting socialism to
arrive before this becomes an issue for me personnaly and
I would not 'voluntarily' give any inheritance I recieved away
before it had :)

I do think that the Socialist Party are still very much
saddled with a historical legacy, and they have not yet
got a lot to say to us, as their main concern is still with
the lagacy of imperialism and the rights or workers in a
manufacturing situation.

We are 'workers who control the means of production'
but we do not control the means of distribution, which, especially
after the sale of net, is again, owned by capital.

I do think that we are able to make a very significant
contribution to the evolution of economic and social theory
by creating a fair and equitable environment to work within,
but bearing in mind that neither the John Lewis Partnership nor
the CO-OP have broken the mold of capitalism I have limited ambitions:
namely to enable me and mine to prosper without exploiting
others.

ohoh Ruths awake :)

love Tim
