I agree with the Organisation page.I couldn't find the GNU motivation document.
As for the Aims document:
Why do we need the "without buying in to various obsolescent
technologies and cultural edifices". Surely Paneris is about
"enabl[ing] its members to earn their living as easily and
efficiently as possible" full stop, no? By qualifying the phrase
you seen to imply that we could be more efficient and live more
easily if we _did_ "buy into [etc]". Rather than concentrating
on the fact that we are _not_ using the old organisational models,
why not acentuate the fact that we _do_ use modern (network)
organisational models?"PanEris is founded so as to provide the members with the security
which English business has ceased to provide." - if only it did!
Seriously, though, how does PanEris achieve this?"PanEris is also founded as a means by which the members can discharge
their responsibility to the rest of the International Proletariat".
I personally feel very uncomfortable with such a statement. I don't feel
that I have such a responsibility - anything I do to help is good, but
I can't remember ever being motivated by my responsibility to the world.
I know, I know, I'm a bastard. But I'm still a member of PanEris (I hope).I know that it's a lot more important to Tim and that PanEris _was_
created, at least in part, to help others out, but I'm not sure how that
is achieved. Is this because there is a difference between PanEris the
organisation and PanEris the web site? Do I have to sign up to these
politics to join PanEris? To use the PanEris site?As a member of the post-political generation, I would feel put-off finding
more about the organisation as soon as I spotted "International Proletariat"
which smacks of old-school industrialist thinking. I think that the requirement
of having a computer and Internet account means that a vast number of the
world's waged cannot be helped by PanEris unless we are talking about a more
radical interpretation of "help" that the one which I am using (can become
members of PanEris and work with us).I hope I don't sound too critical. I think most of what I have said concerns
the tone of the document. I would feel happier with a more business-like
document with less emphasis on saving the world (more emphasis on working
efficiently). Maybe more of a mission statement than a manifesto. I realise
that PanEris is not just about business, but how are the extra objectives
achieved other than by allowing us to conduct business in the way we want to?That might add up to 4p worth :-)
