CV IN BRIEF=========== I have worked in Graphic Design since 1987 based in print media, originally using drawing boards and pre-digital paste-up techniques (Letraset, Bromide Camera etc...). In 1989 I began using Apple Macintosh Computers for design work which I had first used in 1983/4 when they were first on the market. Previous experience in print design includes packaging, marketing brochures, promotional literature and leaflets, exhibition boards, Newsletters, Stationary, Fax Headers and Mailers, Corporate Identity, T-Shirt Design, Posters and Programmes from initial concepts to finished product. I have experience in working with full colour design and designs limited to single and spot colours. Between 1992 and 1993 I occasionally carried out voluntary work with Cable Television crews to learn more about video production and editing techniques. Left full-time employment in 1993 to study BA Hons Graphic Design as a mature student specialising in Multimedia. Graduated from Coventry University in June 1996 with First Class Honours. During my course I carried out freelance work for a number of companies including an electronic publishing company in Kidlington, just north of Oxford, where I was required to produce user intefaces for CDROM products and WebSites being involved with the planning of information access structures and product specification from the outset of new projects My thesis centered on "The Changing Role of Graphic Designers in the Digital Age" for which I studied the theories of Human Computer Interaction, over and above the requirements of the course.SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE-------------------Macromedia Flash & Shockwave, Macromedia Director & Lingo,Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, Quark Xpress, Adobe Pagemaker, AdobePremiere, Adobe Dimensions, Adobe Streamline, Avid Media100, Avid VideoShop,Macromedia Freehand, Macromedia SoundEdit, Macromedia DeckII,Macromedia Extreme 3D, Macromedia XRes, Equilibrium Debablizer,Macromedia Fontographer, amongst others...RECENT DESIGN PROJECTS======================XENOCRACY---------http://xenocracy.grolier.co.ukThis site was designed to promote a new computer game from GrolierInteractive. The client's briefconsisted almost entirely of a set of keywords - "Credible, Strong,Authoritative, Personable, Human, Contemporary, Dynamic, Clear".In this design I have tried to create an image for the site whichexpresses all these ideas, whilst also standing-out from the crowd throughthe use of colour.INITIATIVE----------This company was set up as an internal think-tank of United News and Mediato initiate new media business opportunites, both within the group andwith outside companies. The main aim of INITIATIVE is to bring together companies which mightotherwise not work together, and provide venture captial to funddevelopment of new media products. The following URLs are pages which display various stages of the design ofthe company's corporate identity.http://www.oit.net/~colin/initiative/ (visuals for recent logo design)http://www.oit.net/~colin/initiative/logo.html (final rendering of abovelogo design)http://www.oit.net/~colin/initiative/cards.html (application of logo tobusiness cards)My idea for the logo was to use intersecting cogs to communicate the ideaof otherwise disperate elements working in conjuction to drive for acommon goal. The image conotes the idea of "wheels of industry", while thecogs are gold to imply a sense of value, finance and profit.
