INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the project as a whole; to define the tasks required to carry out the project; to assert the responsibility of such tasks to specific individuals and groups; and to provide a fixed record of deadlines and responsibilities as agreed between all parties concerned.

For organisational purposes the project has been split into 3 phases.

Responsibility for hosting and server-side programming services has yet to be assigned at the time of writing this document. This party is therefore referred to as ISP.

While this document is open to review it is given that no revision will take place, unless reasonable and agreed by all parties concerned, after the commencement of production.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Production of the SPEEDO website has been split into the following phases:

Details for each phase are given below and are aimed at providing the client with a progressively developed website meeting their objectives in two distinct classes here defined as "primary" and "secondary".

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

The following objectives are defined as deliverable as the result of phase 2.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES

The following objectives are defined as deliverable as the result of phase 3.

CONTENT OVERVIEW

The site will encompass the following sections for which separate detailed specifications are to be made available.

HOMEPAGE

A ³news leader² will be incorporated within the Home Page, and will take the user who clicks onto this, directly into the News/PR section of the site.

<-- FUTURE ADDITION: Through the use of "cookies", regular users will develop a ³habits² profile, which identifies those areas of the site which they visit most often. Once established, aspects of the Home Page content will be tailored to reflect the user's best interests, so that each time they log on, any new and "user relevant" features of potential interest to them will be flagged up automatically. -->

MEDIA CENTRE

This area will contain press releases and sports related stories from SPEEDO.

Key features would be identified as ³hot-off-the-press² with an appropriate graphic icon. In this way we encourage both the consumer and the trade user to ³explore² one world - and ensure that what may be seen as a purely ³trade² section of the site is seen by as wide an audience as possible.

The Media/PR sections will have self-administration tools enabling Speedo appointed personnel to create, edit and delete articles as required.

ABOUT SPEEDO

This area will provide information about:

EVENTS

Consisting of a diary of forthcoming Swim, Beach and Triathlon events around the world with links to news articles related to that event. These will be controlled through the use of the back-end admin tools which will also facilitate the addition of; deletion of; and editing of items in the repective event categories.

Categories will be listed in chronological order with the nearest future event at the top of the list.

THE PRODUCT

Inline with SPEEDO consumer communication, this section will be structured around key product technical stories across Swim, Beach and Multisport categories.

Products will include:

Examples of each product will be featured shot (front and rear) on a clear plastic body shell to give a 3D impression and a technical feel. A maximum of ten case studies will be featured from each category.

Copy will focus on the technical properties supported by generic shots.

Thumbnails shots will be featured, linking to larger image files as an option for the user.

Hyperlink options will be built into this section to incentivise the user to cross into other sections of the web site to find out more, thus enhancing the perception of the product and the SPEEDO brand.

Additionally the user will have access to a "Where to buy" section comprising an international distributor list with telephone numbers and addresses.

ATHELETES

This section will focus on eight key atheletes which SPEEDO identify as being potential gold medalists at the next Olympic Games. ie: 5 swimmers, 2 volleyball and 1 triathlon.

The section will encompass:

FEEDBACK

The feedback area will encompass a brief questionairre aimed at providing comparable feedback through multiple choice responses (ie: yes/no).

Initially the user input will be emailed to an appropriate address. As a future project it would be advisable to assess SPEEDO's requirements in more detail, and create an appropriate questionairre the responses to which would be stored in a database for statistical analysis.

<-- ADDITIONAL FUTURE SPEC: Feedback is a key area of the site and so additionally we would like to incorporate random feedback opportunities within other sections of the site, allowing the user to respond as spontaneously as possible to single questions. In this way we can harvest responses at that moment - and around current issues, rather than hope that they will venture into the feedback section and complete a comprehensive feedback form. E.g. within the Product section of the site - a click on the DPS illustrating A-T-L communication for Endurance could be accompanied by a question that relates directly to the appeal of the ad; or we could include a drop-down list that details key publications asking them which they read regularly. All random feedback responses would be directed to specific sections within the database with the user ³acknowledged² and recorded by their viewing machine. Every time they answered another random question, their response would automatically be collated, allowing the database to build a profile of them and their habits. -->

PHASE 1 IMPLEMENTATION

This phase of the project is concerned with laying the groundwork for construction of the site.

A meeting will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday 28th of April to discuss any outstanding issues.

Documentation to be prepared to provide a basis for agreement between all parties involved in the site production and a detailed written specification of requirements and objectives.

To ensure that production may continue smoothly in phase 2, given the geographical distances between parties involved, naming conventions for various aspects of the site - such as images and frames - will be established. Further to this the structure of the site will be agreed so the content of the site may be easily located in it's appropriate place on the web server.

ACTIONS

PHASE 2 IMPLEMENTATION

The phase of the project is concerned with the construction of the site itself. Given the short time-frame, this will concentrate on delivering the core objectives of the site. However there will be some content built for each required section - additional work carried out in phase 3 will encompass complementary content for the sections described in this document.

During the first week of production a skeleton site will be built directly on the server which will be devoid of style. The purpose of this is to provide workable files which define the structure and provide the base functionality as a fixed content site.

ACTIONS

PHASE 3 IMPLEMENTATION

This phase will encompass the construction of all aspects of the site which extend beyond the core objectives, any required ammendments to the site as delivered in Phase 2 and the implementation of server-side programming by ISP.
