Schools Lan Estimate

Requirement

OCS has been approached by a language school in Cowley to set up a small LAN and email for the pupils. The school has currently got six PCs (reasonably modern) for the students and about three very old Macs for the staff. It would be good to link all the machines on a single mixed network, but there will be no great problems if the Macs are not included.

The key requirement is for multiple and constantly changing email addresses. The school has approximately 200 pupils, some of whom stay for many months and some who are here for just a few weeks. As I understand it there are no formal terms, just a constant turnover of pupils.

There is a requirement for cabling which is being quoted on severally.

The school would like to have a server stored in a secure location away form the pupils.

The telephone line must be installed in such a way as to be dedicated to the connection to the internet, and must not be able to be diverted for private phone calls.

The Internet Service Provider must offer a filtered IP service so that access to adult materials is controlled.
